Intaglio

A few more things I wanted to show off. Here are some etchings printed from zinc plates I made during printmaking courses at UNC-Asheville. I miss this process. Currently, I try to depict images through linoleum carvings and on clay.

These two are 9x12 inches

The two kids in their pajamas are friends who were playing with masks. The rabbit was replicated is was owned by a previous roommate.

The man preparing the pig was taken from a photograph I took in Costa Rica near the end of 2007. I stayed at a farm for a couple of weeks and they butchered two pigs for Christmas.

HOot Owl BOX

I tried my hand at an owl. This is a barred owl. It has a horizontally striped feather pattern as a collar and vertical patterns cover the chest and stomach. There's also the great-horned owl and screech owls I hope to try soon.

Painted & Carved

I am gradually building a studio within my house, and therefore lack the array of glaze options I previously had access to. However, I think this will be a good thing. The situation has pushed me to attempt drawing on my pieces, which is something I have been wanting to do for a while, but haven't had the courage. These are paintings and carvings of a carolina wren and a crow, both abundant in my yard and neighboring fields. I referenced found photographs for these drawings. These pieces have yet to be fired.

Morning Glory Carvings

A set of four. Each cup has a detailed drawing of a morning glory from a different angle. The rest of the piece is carved with vines, leaves, and closed buds. They have yet to be fired.

A Kiln At Home

We left the stuffing out last night. A nibbling critter got stuck and couldn't get out.

A small tea pot made as a demo for an evening wheel throwing class at Mud Slingers Pottery.
I hope to take it to The Indigo Tea Market in Historic Gold Hill after it's fired.

A small character I made with the "pinch pot" technique that has yet to be fired.

Purchased this 5.83 cubic feet electric kiln from Carolina Clay Connection in Charlotte.
We are now working on the most effective placement and wiring at home.
